referred to as the desert kangaroo mouse, was a common inhabitant of the desert planet of Arrakis. The Fremen respected the Muad'dib for their ability to survive in the harsh open desert, and deified them because their image could be seen on one of the moons of Arrakis. To the Fremen, the Muad'dib were the "instructor of boys", as they were the creature that all Fremen were to follow the suite of. When Paul Atreides became part of the Fremen tribe, he took the Fremen name of Usul, and the public name of Muad'dib as well. However, not wanting to completely abandon his heritage, he made his name Paul-Muad'dib.
